Exam about counterfeit drugs

Part1 Reading  comprehension
Read the text carefully then do the activities.
A counterfeit drug or a counterfeit medicine is a medication which is produced and sold with the intent to deceptively represent its origin or effectiveness. The common street word for counterfeit drug is ‘’bead bag’’. Such a product may not contain a sufficient amount of active ingredients or contains entirely incorrect ones.
People who apply a counterfeit medication may experience a number of dangerous consequence to their health, such as unexpected side effects, allergic reactions or a worsening of their condition. Many counterfeits contain inert substances which do not provide the patient any treatment benefits. On the contrary, they may be hazardous.
It is estimated that upward of 10% of drugs worldwide are counterfeit, and in some countries more than 50% of the drug supply is made up of counterfeit drugs. Furthermore, the World Heath Organization estimates that the annual earning of counterfeit drugs are over $32 billion.
There are several technologies to help combating this problem, such as radio frequency identification which uses electronic devices to identify pharmaceutical products. A new technique, Raman spectroscopy can be used to discover counterfeit drugs while they are still in their packaging.
According to the latest researches, India stands as the first country in fake drug manufacture. 75% of counterfeit medicines in the world have their origins in India, followed by 07 % from Egypt and 06 % from China. Word Stress

Here are some  rules that can help you understand where to put the stress. But do not rely on them too much, because there are many exceptions. It is better to try to "feel" the music of the language and to add the stress naturally.
1 Stress on first syllable
Most 2-syllable nouns    PRESent, EXport, CHIna, TAble
Most 2-syllable adjectives    PRESent, SLENder, CLEVer, HAPpy
2 Stress on last syllable
Most 2-syllable verbs    to preSENT, to exPORT, to deCIDE, to beGIN

REMARK
There are many two-syllable words in English whose meaning and class change with a change in stress. The word present, for example is a two-syllable word. If we stress the first syllable, it is a noun (gift) or an adjective (opposite of absent). But if we stress the second syllable, it becomes a verb (to offer). More examples: the words export, import, contract and object can all be nouns or verbs depending on whether the stress is on the first or second syllable.

3 Stress on penultimate syllable (penultimate = second from end)
Words ending in -ic    GRAPHic, geoGRAPHic, geoLOGic
Words ending in -sion and -tion    teleVIsion, reveLAtion

REMARK
For a few words, native English speakers don't always "agree" on where to put the stress. For example, some people say teleVIsion and others say TELevision. Another example is: CONtroversy and conTROversy.

4 Stress on ante-penultimate syllable (ante-penultimate = third from end)

Words ending in -cy, -ty, -phy and -gy    deMOcracy, dependaBIlity, phoTOgraphy, geOLogy
Words ending in -al    CRItical, geoLOGical

5 Compound words (words with two parts)
For compound nouns, the stress is on the first part    BLACKbird, GREENhouse
For compound adjectives, the stress is on the second part    bad-TEMpered, old-FASHioned
For compound verbs, the stress is on the second part    to underSTAND, to overFLOW

Athenians thought of themselves as the shining star of the Greek city states. They were famous for their literature, poetry, drama, theatre, schools, buildings, and government. Before the Greek dark ages, Athens was a small village and developed rapidly until it became one of the two most powerful city states in the ancient Greek world.
The Greek believed that each city state in ancient Greece had a god or a goddess in charge of it, their special patron. For Athens, the patron was Athena, goddess of wisdom. Perhaps because Athena was their patron, Athenians put a great deal of emphasis on education.
Girls learned at home from their mothers to run a home, to be good wives and mothers. While boys were educated quite differently; until the age of 7, they were taught and educated at home by their mothers. They attended a day school outside the home from 7 to 14. There, they memorized Homeric poetry and learned to play the lyre. They learned drama, public speaking, reading, writing, math, and perhaps even how to play the flute. After middle-school, they went to a four year high-school and learned more about math, science, and government. At the age of 18, they attended two years of military school. This is why Athens was proud of its system of education.
The men of Athens met each week to discuss problems and work on solutions. For about 100 years, Athens was a direct democracy.
